Being a woman, sometimes you can feel vulnerable in certain situations like jogging alone, or being in an empty parking lot. While basic common sense is your best self defense tool, there are other items you can use that can help you tremendously. Here are four items that you should think about carrying with you at all times.
Whistle
A whistle might not seem like a very high tech piece of self defense equipment, but they are cheap, easy to carry, and easy to use. Just make sure the one you get is loud enough to be heard from a long ways away. Some newer whistles can actually be heard from up to one mile away.
Personal Alarm
Electronic personal alarms are often loud enough to be heard for well over one mile away, and can be loud enough to actually harm your attacker, but the sound also affect you as well.
Pepper Spray
Pepper spray seems to be the standard for women self defense, but make sure the one you have is not expired, otherwise it could lose its effectiveness. Also, make sure you know how to disable the safety feature before you need to use it, because sometimes these can be tricky to figure out.
Stun Gun
Compact stun guns are often small enough these days to look like a tube of lipstick, but can still pack a lot of voltage. Often times an attacker will give up early when you start to discharge it and they can see the spark starting to form between the prongs.
By carrying just one of these tools with you it can tremendously increase your chances for safety and can even give you that extra boost of confidence that you need. Don't wait until something happens before you take steps to defend yourself. Act today and get one of these tools to carry with you, or at the very least figure out ways to decrease your chances of getting attacked.
